What camera to buy in Thailand

I bought a Sony Video Camera last month but I always wanted a nice professional real camera even if my Sony Quick Shot is very handy. It has some problems in the heat in Thailand but I managed to fix it. I looked at a few cameras abut the one that I like the most is the Nikon D40x. It has got very good reviews every where and it has a good price as well. The Sony camera is a good choice as well but it is there first series so I do not think it will be that brilliant. Canon system camera is off course the only camera that can match the Nikon D40x.
