My illusion about Thailand as a safe country was broken last Sunday when I was on my way the bus.
Riding on the back of a motorbike taxi at 09.00 in the morning with the clean air and the new set sun shining I was having a good time in Pattaya Thailand.
Suddenly I felt someone reach out and grab my gold chain around my neck. I started to scream and pull back and after a few seconds the thief’s let go. It was 2 boys on a motorbike that I guess spotted me on some red light and wanted to make some quick money. I am sure someone else had to suffer the same morning. It is so dangerous to do this kind of things, they can fall or and I can fall of the motorbike. Just for some stupid money that will go to drugs.
The motorbike taxi wanted to go after them but I said to him to go away from there I did not loose anything and I did not want to miss my buss. I just had some bruise on my neck but otherwise I was mostly shaken in my mind I can still not believe it happens. 8 years in Thailand and nothing like this have happened to me before.
From what I understand this happens all the time in Pattaya and people are told not to wear chains at all.

Admin… I don’t understand what you’re attempting to say.
I do agree that both Phuket & Pattaya are full of con men and not safe anymore. Foreigners should be warned of what awaits them!

I have suggested to all people all know that they should have Pattaya and Phuket a special tourist zone. Let Thai people and farang check in like a Visa to Pattaya and Phuket so that you know who is there. There is too many riff raff in Pattaya and also Phuket blended by all the riches from the tourists. Many come there to find work and they find drugs instead.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune and it’s true that Pattaya is not safe at all compared with the rest of Thailand. I actually feel much safer myself in Bkk and it’s very good advice not to wear jewelry at all when in Pattaya.
