The dirty beaches of Thailand
Pattaya beach have once more reached the headlines by having a very dirty beach. Loads of junk have floated up on the beach last week and the local media was at the scene and took some photos.
They also warned people from swimming in the sea for now, actually I never seen a tourist in the sea on Pattaya beach for 10 years.
This happens every year when we have a big storm, things that are floating around further comes back to the beach.
The same thing happens on the beaches in Patong in Phuket, tourists has to get used to swimming with plastic bags and old diapers.
People must learn that they can not keep dumping garbage in the sea and think it will just float away; it will come back in the low season.
Mindstream
where the heck is Bon Island?
Dawn
The same problem for me too here on Bon Island, whenever the wind is strong and the waves are large, rubbish from everywhere gets washed ashore. Everyday we have to collect M150 bottles, plastic bottles, cigarette lighters, bags, rope and many other things. We separate the rubbish and send it to the recycle shop. However there is also a lot of natural rubbish like wood and leaves that can also make the beach look dirty. When the sea goes down the rubbish will float around and more will be added and it will come ashore again.
Sadly a lot of the rubbish that arrives is obviously thrown off local fishing boats (M150 bottles) and local tour boats (black rubbish bags full of food etc). In both cases these people are making a profit from nature but destroying it at the same time.
More effort needs to be made with educating children to protect their environment. Many times I see old mattresses just thrown away by the roadside along with plastic bags of rotten food.so the government clearly needs to look at the local rubbish collection service, which is lacking a system for local householders to dispose of their rubbish.
Maybe we should go back to the days of returnable bottles to stop people throwing them away.
