The Frog blog had a small talk with the founder of Thai Visa forum.
It was a very Thai visa like interview with not saying anything really and trying to walk on the right side of the line.
I guess that’s why some people do not like Thai visa they are to Thai correct. Also the not so breaking news can be a bit disturbing some times when all they do is scare up people to go hire a lawyer that sponsor the forum.
I think the fact that Thai visa always trying to tell us that they do not make profit when we all know that they must be one of the most profitable expats website in Thailand
They also had some controversy a few years ago when a moderator in CM was arrested for pedophile charges.
Even if i am not a regular and i really do not like the talk on the forum its my pick for find visa news and nothing else.

I thought The Thaivisa founder was as forthcoming as one might expect from the admin of such a big online community. Often the criticism aimed at such forums comes from the disaffected, people who feel they’ve been unfairly dealt with – ie sour grapes. I’ve criticised TV myself in the past, but what people don’t realise is how hard it is to run a ‘live’ forum in the face of worldwide defamation laws. If the critics were in charge, I would bet they would be just as tough when moderating.
I’ve run a small forum with a thousand members for a few years, aimed at raising funds for children in sport. Even there we have our difficulties, and members have to be ‘disciplined’. I can only imagine what it’s like in a forum with nearly 80,000 members, liable to say anything and everything at any moment.
Paedophiles? I doubt voluntary moderators are police-checked – anyone can make the mistake of taking on someone inappropriate. What is important is what is done about it when it becomes known.
As for making money – only the envious complain about this! They just wish they’d thought of it first…

I agree that there is some terrible scandal and gossip on Thai Visa, but that, I suppose, is the nature of the internet. I didnt know Thai Visa was sponsored by lawyers. That may account for a thread being closed when problems with local (Chiang Mai) lawyers were being discussed. I certaily had the feeling that as soon as corrupt lawyers, police officerts and Ex Pat clubs were being discussed that “big brother” appeared. Having said that I really think that for all its faults we are better of with the likes of Thai Visa than not.
