The BBC of the United Kingdom had a brief story today about south Thailand Yala province where 1 person die each day. Even with (or because of) the Thai government deployed 10 000 soldiers the Muslim insurgents can still kill people almost every day.
The Muslim guerilla movement wants to be separated from Thailand and have their own state or more close ties to Malaysia. Nobody knows really want they want and nobody really knows what groups do what all the time. Some of the killings might be revenge attacks by none Thai or just drug related killings.
One thing is very clear that this government and the military junta have done little to stop the killings in south Thailand. I am sure some of the people doing this are well known by the military in Thailand but politics and others things prevent them from arresting them. It’s also difficult to get people to testify when death lurks around every corner.
Next time you are in a sun bed on a Phuket beach send a prayer to the people in the other south districts just a few miles away, their suffering does not have an end just yet.
