Is Bangkok Safe this weekend?

Sometimes you must wonder if the Thai media is helping the different fractions in Thai politics to beat the war drum. People can say whatever they want and nobody is really checking if there are any facts behind it. The Red Shirts have failed every time to bring any big numbers to Bangkok since last April but the government still are scared for them. I know one of my friends she constantly going to Red Shirt camps outside Bangkok and she always text me saying this is the last stand and then she comes back to Bangkok like nothing happens. But the Thai media is drawing up war scenarios every time the Red Shirts say they will come to Bangkok.

Some newspapers have quoted that 20 000 monks will come to help the Red Shirts? What monks are those and should monks really mingle in politics? I agree that in Burma they had to do something but should Thai monks really take on a Red Shirt in Bangkok? Have anybody called the monastery and asked them if they really are going or is it just words?

Thaivisa.com is beating the drum as well asking it members to subscribe to their SMS service that they have together with The Nation Newspaper so they can be safe in Bangkok. The last breaking news from Thaivisa.com was that police arrested 40 hookers on beach road in Pattaya, you go figure if that is breaking news.

I feel like the media want something to happen that they are trying to create something to get some real news. Last April was not nice but in the same time when some parts of Bangkok had live bullets flying other parts had the usual water war going on like nothing happened.

My advice is for my readers are to stay indoors, do not go down to the old area of town and the Central World area. If you need to go somewhere expect traffic jams and expect many shops to be closed as well as banks. Do not have a red or yellow shirt on and if you see a demonstrations go the other way. This is a Thai thing and they seldom hurt foreigners if they are not provoked.
