Heartworm in Thailand

Heartworm in Thailand

After had dogs in Thailand for over 10 years I have no had my first sick dog? I treat my dogs very well and they almost never sick they get good quality food that I cook myself but I guess age takes its toll.

Two of my dogs now got heart worm and while one of them are healthy like a kid (she is 10) the other one is mix breed is very sick and might not make it.

In my country, we do not have heartworm and none of the dog ever has it but apparently, 90 % of the street dogs in Thailand have it and they act like normal.

To prevent heartworm you give your dogs Heart guard and if your dog has heartworm already, you need to give them Imiticide. Be careful when you buy a pet in Thailand because most of the dogs in Thailand that live outside have heartworm. A test cost around 600 THB and can be done in 10 min at most clinics in Thailand. When you buy a dog in Thailand take this test, you will see if the dog has other disease as well.

The company that makes Imiticide called Merial and according to many doctors I talk to, the Thai branch of the same company are “jerks”. We tried to call them in Thailand but no answer and contact the main branch with no answer yet. I seen on the internet that they are very low in stock and many customers all over the world complains. That is why it is very important to make sure your dog never gets heartworm in the first place.

If you have not tested your dog yet please go check and see if she is in risk of being sick. Start giving her heart guard right away to kill the worm baby and make sure they not reproduce.
