Is looks like the stars do not like Thailand this year and wanted to give Thailand a last gift for next year. Over 59 people were killed in the popular nightclub Santika in Bangkok. At the stroke of midnight people set off fireworks at the stage and that started a fire that spread quick. 1000 people tried to exit but the 4 exits was not marked very well or locked so people had to relay on the main entrance. Several hundred people remains in hospital right now and the Police have said that most of the killed were foreigners.
Many night clubs in Thailand have no fire exit or sprinklers and any other safety system. Recent crack downs lasts only for a few weeks and then clubs start looking the doors or not follow regulations. I been to many famous nightclubs in Bangkok and most of them are a death trap should a fire break out.
When you mix drunken people with uneducated staff, dark rooms with no emergency light with smoke and fire you will get a deadly cocktail.

You just described the fire in the Rhode Island, USA nightclub where Great White was playing which killed 100.

Didnt anyone learn from the “Great White” concert in USA. Same exact mistake. DOnt light off fireworks inside, especially with a foam ceiling………
Phil
That would be the responsible thing to do. The club owner will be charged. His insurance on the club expired “a long time ago” according to a related article.
Rick
Setting off fireworks in a crowded room with foam ceilings, no fire exits, no sprinkler system, only one way out – only in Thailand would this sound like a good idea…….Will 2009 finally bring some common sense to the people of this Kingdom?
